As the founder and lead instructor, I bring my passion for firearms education and real-world experience to every class, ensuring you leave prepared, capable, and informed.
My Story
Raised in Southern California, where owning a firearm was often stigmatized and looked down upon, I sought a path that aligned with my drive for service and protection. This led me to join the U.S. Army in 1999, where I spent my initial enlistment specializing in Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) Warfare. Later, I transitioned to the West Virginia Air National Guard at Yeager, serving in Security Forces. These military experiences sharpened my skills in operating under extreme pressure, defensive tactics, and prioritizing safety in high-stakes environments foundations that continue to shape my instruction today.
Building on this, I pursued a career in law enforcement, where I served for over a decade in numerous specialized units. Holding certifications as a Firearms Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, SWAT Operator, Sniper, and in DEA Undercover/Surveillance operations, this hands-on work deepened my expertise in situational awareness, tactical decision making, and the responsible use of firearms, allowing me to gain the real-world knowledge I now share with my students.
In 2019, I founded BL Outfitters in Charleston, WV to bridge the gap in accessible, practical concealed carry and self-defense training especially for those coming from backgrounds like mine, where firearms education was scarce. As a USCCA certified instructor with over 15 years of teaching experience, I’ve guided hundreds of students from first-time gun owners to seasoned permit holders through West Virginia’s CCW laws, defensive shooting techniques, and real world preparedness. My approach blends military and law enforcement insights with a patient, hands on teaching style, making complex topics clear and approachable for all. Whether we’re in the classroom covering legal nuances or at the range practicing safe firearms handling, my goal is to build your confidence through knowledge and skill.
