Are family-oriented classes available?

How does BL Outfitters ensure range safety?

Safety is paramount. In the classroom, no live ammunition is allowed, and we use dummy rounds for training. All firearms are treated as loaded, adhering to strict safety protocols. On the range, our instructors supervise closely, limiting active shooters based on experience and instructor availability to maintain a secure environment.

What should I wear to a class?

For range-based classes, wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and weather-appropriate attire, as some sessions are outdoors. For indoor CCW classes, choose comfortable clothing. Always review your course description for specific dress code details.

What are the requirements for a West Virginia CCW permit?

To obtain a West Virginia Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permit (Regular or Provisional), you must:

  • Be at least 21 (18–20 for a Provisional CCW).

  • Be a West Virginia resident or a non-resident with a valid state-issued ID.

  • Complete a state-approved firearms training course (offered by BL Outfitters).

  • Not be prohibited from possessing firearms under state or federal law, including:

    • Felony convictions or pending felony charges.

    • Misdemeanor domestic violence convictions.

    • Adjudication as mentally incompetent or involuntary commitment (unless rights are restored).

    • Active protective orders or stalking convictions.

    • Drug addiction or unlawful use of controlled substances.

  • Submit fingerprints and pass a background check.

How long is the West Virginia CCW course?

Our West Virginia CCW course typically runs 4–6 hours, depending on class size and location. This includes classroom instruction and, where required, range time to demonstrate firearm competency.

What is the cost of obtaining a West Virginia CCW permit?

The BL Outfitters CCW course costs $99.00. Additional fees include:

  • Sheriff’s office application fee: $25.00 (Regular CCW) or $15.00 (Provisional CCW).

  • Fingerprinting/background check: $10–$25, depending on the county.
    Total costs typically range from $120–$150. Contact your local sheriff’s office for accepted payment methods.

Does the West Virginia CCW course include range time?

Yes, our CCW course includes a live-fire component to meet West Virginia’s training requirements for demonstrating firearm competency. We encourage additional range practice to further hone your skills.

What are the next steps after completing the CCW course?

Upon completing our course, you’ll receive a certificate of completion. Submit this, along with your application, fingerprints, and fees, to your local sheriff’s office. Application processes vary by county, so contact your sheriff’s office for specific instructions. Non-residents can apply through any West Virginia sheriff’s office.

Can non residents obtain a West Virginia CCW permit?

Yes, non-residents aged 21 or older can apply for a West Virginia CCW permit. Our courses meet the training requirements for both residents and non-residents. Submit applications to any West Virginia sheriff’s office, and the permit is valid in West Virginia and reciprocating states.

Why get a West Virginia CCW permit?

While West Virginia allows open carry without a permit, a CCW permit lets you carry concealed legally. Benefits include:
